Steven Gerrard has strongly criticised Galatasaray following their heavy defeat to Liverpool FC in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Liverpool delivered a dominant performance at Anfield, overturning a 1-0 first-leg loss with an emphatic 4-0 victory to progress 4-1 on aggregate. However, beyond the result, Gerrard expressed frustration with what he described as poor conduct from some Galatasaray players during the match.
Liverpool dominate at Anfield
Arne Slot’s side were in control from start to finish, producing one of their most convincing displays of the season. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah sealed a comfortable win for the Reds.
After the game, Ekitike even suggested the scoreline could have been far more one-sided, noting that Liverpool’s dominance could easily have resulted in a much bigger margin.
The victory sends Liverpool through to the quarter-finals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.

Gerrard criticises Galatasaray’s conduct
Speaking after the match, Gerrard did not hold back in his assessment of the Turkish side’s performance and behaviour.
He criticised what he saw as excessive play-acting, saying fans came expecting an intense, fast-paced game but were instead met with players going down too easily. While he acknowledged that there were a couple of genuine injuries, he expressed disappointment at others he felt exaggerated contact.
Gerrard described the overall display as “embarrassing” and “pathetic,” adding that Liverpool were far superior on the night and made Galatasaray look ordinary.

Injury concerns for Galatasaray
Despite the criticism, the visitors also suffered real setbacks during the match, with two players picking up serious injuries.
Victor Osimhen was forced off after sustaining a fracture in his arm. The striker initially tried to continue playing but was withdrawn at half-time after medical checks. He has since had his arm placed in a cast, with a decision on possible surgery expected soon.
Substitute Noa Lang also suffered a significant injury, sustaining a deep cut to his thumb. The club confirmed he is set to undergo surgery.
