Fubara celebrate third anniversary with renewed push for growth in Rivers

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has marked the third anniversary of his administration with a strong and reflective message that highlights resilience, accountability, and an intensified commitment to people oriented development across the state.

In a broadcast address delivered to citizens within Rivers State and audiences across Nigeria, the governor emphasized that his administration has remained consistent in its guiding philosophy known as “Rivers First.” He explained that this principle has not only shaped policy decisions but has also influenced how public funds are allocated, how projects are prioritized, and how governance is carried out at every level.

According to Fubara, the past three years have tested the strength and direction of his leadership, yet they have also provided an opportunity to demonstrate that governance can remain focused and effective even in the face of serious political distractions. The anniversary, he noted, is not just a celebration of time in office but a moment to assess progress and renew commitment to the people.

A Renewed Focus on Accountability and Responsible Leadership

In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor expressed deep appreciation to the people of Rivers State for their continued support, patience, and trust in his administration.

He stated that his government remains committed to serving the general public rather than catering to narrow political interests. He stressed that leadership must be rooted in responsibility and transparency, adding that every kobo of public money must translate into visible and meaningful development.

Fubara reiterated that the achievements recorded so far are a result of cooperation between government and citizens. He assured residents that he would continue to listen closely to their needs and respond with policies that directly improve their quality of life. He also emphasized that governance under his watch would remain open, accountable, and focused on long term impact rather than short term political gains.

Infrastructure as a Tool for Economic Transformation

A major pillar of the administration’s strategy has been the use of infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth. Governor Fubara explained that improving connectivity between rural and urban areas is essential for unlocking the economic potential of the state.

He pointed out that many rural communities in Rivers State are rich in agricultural resources but remain underutilized due to poor access to markets. By constructing and rehabilitating roads, the government aims to bridge this gap and create opportunities for farmers, traders, and small business owners.

Among the flagship projects highlighted is the Port Harcourt Ring Road, a major road network designed to ease traffic congestion within the capital city while also expanding commercial activities. The Trans Kalabari Highway is another significant project that is expected to transform the economic landscape of riverine communities by providing reliable access to areas that were previously difficult to reach.

The Elele Umudioga Egbeda Ubimini Ikiri Omoku road corridor is being developed to enhance movement across several local government areas, reducing travel time and improving safety. In addition, the Ngo Atlantic Oyorokoto road project is opening up coastal communities, making it easier to transport goods and access essential services.

Beyond road construction, the administration is also investing in public infrastructure such as the reconstruction of the state Secretariat Complex, which is expected to be completed by 2027. There have also been improvements in primary healthcare services, including efforts to strengthen the workforce and expand access to quality care, especially in rural areas. The education sector has not been left out, as reforms are underway to improve teaching standards and support personnel development.

Navigating Political Challenges with Determination

Governor Fubara’s administration has faced significant political turbulence, including a prolonged struggle over the control of the state’s political structure. Over the course of his tenure, he has encountered strong opposition and multiple attempts to destabilize his government through impeachment threats and legislative conflicts.

Despite these challenges, the governor has maintained a steady focus on governance. Political analysts have observed that rather than slowing down his administration, the crisis appears to have strengthened his resolve to deliver results that directly impact the lives of the people.

Fubara acknowledged that the resilience of Rivers residents has played a crucial role in sustaining progress. He praised the determination of workers, traders, artisans, farmers, and young people who continue to contribute to the state’s economy despite the difficulties they face.

Three Years of Measurable Progress

After thirty six months in office, the administration points to significant strides in key sectors. In transportation, ongoing projects are laying the groundwork for improved economic integration and mobility. In healthcare, reforms are gradually expanding access to essential services for underserved populations. In governance, the emphasis on fiscal discipline and transparency is helping to build public trust.

The Rivers First policy continues to serve as a framework for ensuring that government actions remain aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people. According to the governor, this approach has helped to ensure that development is not only visible but also impactful.

A Call for Unity and Continued Collaboration

As Rivers State reflects on both the administration’s anniversary and its broader journey, Governor Fubara used the opportunity to call for unity among all stakeholders. He emphasized that progress can only be sustained when there is cooperation between government, community leaders, and citizens.

He also extended congratulations to Nigerians for maintaining twenty seven years of uninterrupted democratic governance, noting that the country’s ability to remain united despite its diversity is a testament to the strength of its democratic institutions.

In his closing remarks, the governor made it clear that the journey is far from over. While acknowledging the progress made, he stressed that there is still much work to be done in order to achieve the full vision of a prosperous and inclusive Rivers State.

He called on elders, youths, professionals, and community groups to remain actively engaged in the development process. According to him, the future of the state depends on collective effort, shared responsibility, and a continued commitment to the common good.
